Ask 100 people to define success and you're likely to get back all kinds of varying definitions. At first thought, we might believe there are just as many different ways to obtain success, but deeper reflection shows otherwise. Success means different things to each of us. But regardless of the type of success you're striving to obtain, be it business, personal, spiritual, military, sports, you name it, success must be achieved.
"But wait!" you say. "What about people who win the lottery or inherit success or just happen to be in the right place at the right time?" While true that a select few do find success in such a way, it often leads to disastrous results. When people are handed success, if they have never learned how to achieve success, they have little possibility of maintaining it.
We've all heard of some "lucky" person who wins the lottery, only to find that within a few years time, their life has been ruined by drugs or debt. Their marriage destroyed. Their families and former friends shun them. They have no job, no home, no hope. Look at the athletes or entertainers who are endowed with God given talents, causing them almost instant success. Would you consider Britney Spears a success? She still has plenty of money and recognition, but is her life a success? Of course not!
ü Today, nearly half of all entrepreneurs who start new businesses fail in the first year. Fewer than 20% will survive the first five years.
ü Nearly half of all first marriages end in divorce. 60% of all second marriages end in divorce and an astonishing 70% of all third marriages end in divorce.
ü Some estimates indicate that 90% of all baby-boomers will lack the financial resources to retire at age 65.
Statistics like this make success sound almost impossible. The reality is, success for any endeavor is not that difficult to figure out. Don't read too much into what I just said. I didn't say success was easy. I said success is not that difficult to figure out.
Balance + Process = Success
Regardless of what you have endeavored to succeed in, success is achieved by a combination of balance and process. That may sound simplistic at first, but when I teach you the power of balance and process, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish and of the personal or business goals you can achieve.
