choose which one we will obsess over - expectations or thanksgivings. That
choice will result in a birth - and the child will be named either contempt, or
respect.

Marriage is a gift from God. It is intended for the fulfillment of life on earth, the propagation of life. Marriage is one of God's four Divine Institutions. And yet, what we see today is all to often not as God intended marriage to be.
Every marriage eventually falls into one of these three categories;
1. hell on earth. These marriages almost always end up in divorce court with broken homes and broken lives, but often only after years of misery and/or abuse. Often the victims of this type of marriage end up replacing one marriage with another one, only to find the original spouse wasn't the problem after all.
2. like a roller-coaster. These marriages are filled with ups and downs. They end up with two people staying together as roommates, often for the sake of the children, only to stand a good chance of having it all collapse after years of loneliness, bitterness, frustration, and animosity. Most marriages spend time as roller-coasters before either deteriorating beyond repair or elevating to a higher purpose.
3. as God intended. These couples discover marriage to be the most fulfilling and rewarding existence life could possibly offer. They have reached the higher purpose of marriage God intended them to have. Even though, sadly, few couples obtain this level of love and commitment, it is available to all who seek it.
Which of these categories your marriage falls into depends on you and the amount of effort you put into it. Only here is the best part. The effort required to make your ordinary marriage extraordinary is far less than the effort of trying to hold on to a marriage that lacks the proper foundation. Not only that, but it will be the most fulfilling and rewarding work you will ever do!
Once you begin to learn how to receive the marriage God intended you to have, that hard work will become a labor of love. It will become work that motivates you each and every day. Once you obtain this level of love in your marriage, every aspect of your life will be transformed. You will find an inner peace and inner happiness you never thought possible.
